ASP AUSTRALIA TO CONVERT TO A BRANCH OF ASP INTERNATIONAL
The Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) International and Surfing
Australia have joined forces to transition Surfing Australia from an ASP
license holder to a regional branch of ASP International over the next four
years. Surfing Australia CEO Mark Lane commended this move saying: “It’s clear the approach to the sport in this region has worked well for over a decade and the outcome of our recent discussions will be a very positive move for the sport.” ASP International and Surfing Australia have been in discussions for the last six months planning the best pathway forward for the sport in Australia where surfing has become an integral part of the nation’s sporting culture. "Overcoming this recent administrative challenge will set a new benchmark in our pathway approach to International sport delivery," Lane said. "Our approach will add further stability to the sport, create sustainable career paths for athletes and will make surfing an even more attractive sponsorship proposition because of the efficiencies and economies the partnership approach will bring.” The ASP Board of Directors hold a firm belief that a consistent platform across all levels of professional surfing will benefit and promote growth in the sport. The ultimate goal is that each region will operate as a branch of ASP International.
