Roxy Jam Cardiff
and Linda Benson Pro come to Cardiff

SECOND
ANNUAL ROXY JAM CARDIFF FEATURING THE LINDA BENSON
WOMEN’S WORLD LONGBOARD PRO TO BE HELD SEPTEMBER 22-23, 2007
Roxy, in conjunction with the Women’s World Longboard Championships (WWLC),
will return to North County San Diego for the second annual Roxy Jam
Cardiff. The highly anticipated Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP)
sanctioned six-star event will take place at Cardiff Reef, September 22-23,
2007.
The
event will feature the Linda Benson Women’s World Longboard Pro and an
amateur longboard competition open to all ages, as well as a legends surfing
expression session and beach fair. The Women’s World Longboard Tour (WWLT)
that has developed, thanks to Roxy’s support, has been an amazing turn of
events for women longboarders...the forever stepchild of surfing,” said
Linda Benson, President of the WWLC.
“It is truly a Cinderella story. With the momentum from the Roxy Jams, the
women longboarders are going to lead the way into the future for
longboarding. I’m so proud to be a part of it all.”
Leading the charge to promote and foster the sport of women’s longboarding,
Roxy continues its support of the WWLT, sponsoring three ASP North American
all-women longboard events throughout the 2007 year. This past weekend
history was made when Roxy hosted the first ever women’s stand-alone
longboard, ASP sanctioned event in Hawaii: the Roxy Jam Honolulu.
Oceanside, California’s own Julie Whitegon cross-stepped her way to victory
and the championship title.
Last year, more than 80 women competed in the inaugural Roxy Jam Cardiff.
Due to its high star rating on the tour, the Roxy Jam Cardiff is a pivotal
stop that offers the competitors a chance to earn valuable points on the
tour. The winner of the event will be crowned the U.S. Regional
Longboarding Champion and earn a coveted spot in the prestigious Roxy Jam
Biarritz Women’s World Longboard Championships, in July 2008.
“We’re happy to return to Cardiff again to celebrate the advancement of
female longboarding,” said Randy Hild, EVP of Global Marketing, Roxy. “We
were overwhelmed by the show of support from the community last year and are
so proud to continue to support the longboarding tour again this year at
this special venue.”
In addition to the $15,000 prize purse up for grabs, presenting sponsor
SchickR QuattroR for WomenT will award a $3,000 SchickR QuattroR for WomenT
Style Award to the pro surfer that demonstrates the best style over the
course of the contest. A second $3,000 prize purse will be offered by
Hansen’s Surf Shop for The Hansen Surfboards Longest Nose Ride.
There will be five open amateur division contests (Teenie Wahine, Menehune,
Junior Women, Senior Women and Masters) and a paddleboard race. The first
place winner in each division wins a SurfTech longboard. Linda Benson and
other renowned longboarders will be on hand for the legends surfing
expression session on Sunday.
Surfer or not, everyone in attendance at the Roxy Jam Cardiff is sure to
have a good time. The event will include a fun-filled, family-oriented
beach fair, featuring Roxy and other sponsor tents, food vendors, an art
exhibit and auction, live music, yoga on the beach hosted by YogaWorks and a
board shapers charity event featuring a chance to win a personal board of
choice from a legendary surfboard shaper.
Proceeds from the art auction and board shapers event will go to the San
Ellijo Lagoon Conservancy. Also, on Saturday and Sunday morning,
competitors and spectators are invited to join the Encinitas fire department
for a pancake breakfast on the beach.
The Roxy Jam Cardiff is sponsored by SchickR QuattroR for WomenT, Wahoo’s,
Paul Mitchell, Hansen Surfboards, Aloha Airlines and Surftech. For more
