SAMOA REPORTS
Report No: 51-06 Period: Monday 18th to Sunday 24th December 2006
Weather for this week has been mostly fine days with afternoon tropical showers and rain.
MONDAY HIGH TIDE – 5.13am, LOW TIDE – 11.00am. Saw a SE chest to head high swell with east winds in the morning glassing off for the late session. Surfed Wakas in the morning – average quality but still fun. No full barrels, but a couple of walls with 2-3 turns in them. Surfed from 7.00 to 8.45. The afternoon was out the front at Resorts in very clean conditions. Some long walls when selection was good. Surfed from 4.00 to 6.30.
TUESDAY HIGH TIDE – 5.52am, LOW TIDE – 11.37am. The swell had dropped a little overnight and the guests were happy to surf out at Resorts both morning and afternoon. First session was OK with small short peaks. The arvo waves were lining up much better with the odd bomb a little over head high. Surfed from 6.30 to 8.00 and 4.30 to 6.45
WEDNESDAY HIGH TIDE – 6.32am, LOW TIDE – 12.19pm. The swell had backed off even more – only waist high most of the time so our guests opted for a scenic island tour today.
THURSDAY HIGH TIDE – 7.15am, LOW TIDE – 1.04pm. A jump in the swell to shoulder to head high, with very clean conditions early, meant a trip to Coco’s. The crew scored some very nice peaks and walls, a little more user friendly than most Coco’s days. Stayed clean until the tide was getting too low then the wind came. Surfed from 7.00 to 9.30.
FRIDAY HIGH TIDE – 8.02am, LOW TIDE – 1.55pm. The swell dropped again overnight and there was wind early so it was an R&R day with a few heading off to explore Upolu again.
SATURDAY HIGH TIDE – 8.53am, LOW TIDE – 2.51pm. A new SE swell had kicked overnight and the call was for a trip to Tiavea on the north side. They found some great wedging peaks at The River Mouth. Although the swell was up to head high the peak was wedging up bigger making it an interesting challenge to get into then to backdoor it. Some nice walls on the left as the wind held off the whole session. Surfed from 8.00 to 10.30.
SUNDAY HIGH TIDE – 9.49am, LOW TIDE – 3.50pm. Morning saw a small SE swell looking very messed up from overnight wind. The call was that most spots would be messed up so they opted to surf out at Resorts. As they surfed through the hide tide the swell seemed to pick up and became very consistent for a while then dropping back off again. Some OK waves out the front but there was a bit of bashing from the sets. Surfed from 9.00 to 11.00.
