 The Rell Sunn Story 'Heart of the Sea' screens in SoCal

 

Heart Of The Sea - The Rell Sunn Story - Screening next week in Laguna Beach

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, On Friday, February 9, 2007 The Laguna Beach Film Society  is delighted to present their third in our Documentary Series which will be held at 7 PM at the FORUM THEATER located on the Festival of Arts grounds in Laguna Beach. 

This month is a tribute Women in Film: The Ladies Directing Doc’s - Awarding Doc’s about outstanding real women.  The evening will screen two shorts and one feature documentary’s that will share with you about our world through the eyes of women filmmakers.  The films set for this evening screenings are:

Heart of the Sea: Kapolioka’ehukai  A feature film by Lisa Denker & Charlotte Lagarde, HEART OF THE SEA is the inspiring portrait of surf legend Rell "Kapolioka'ehukai" Sunn, founding member of the Women's Professional Surfing Association. She contributed to the sport of surfing and to the people of Hawaii.  This film many Audience Awards and is a favorite to many surfers about the spirit of aloha and the love of surfing.

With Honors Denied A film by Mimi Gan Finding a woman living in Washington State who never knew if she really graduated from High School as she was deported to an American Concentration Camp during WWII.  The quest of her son a High School educator lead her to finding out that she was the Class Valedictorian over 50 years later.  Winner Best Short Doc Maui, Cine Quest, Newport Beach and many more.   Special Guest on hand

God Sleeps in Rwanda A film by Kimberlee Acquaro and Stacy Sherman, Narrated by Rosario Dawson   The genocide in Rwanda that took place in the 90’s has changed the roles of women in this country forever.  Academy Award Nominee for Best Documentary Short multiply awards from festivals all over the world.
