SAMOA  REPORTS

Report No:     01-07

Period:         Monday 1st to Sunday 7th January 2007.

Welcome to 2007 and looking forward to another very interesting surf year in Samoa. A smallish swell was the plot for the week.

MONDAY   HIGH TIDE – 5.12am, LOW TIDE – 11.01am.  Dawn revealed a howling SE wind and very little swell. The crews did the early hoping for something so they went as far as Pebbles for a check but to no avail.   R & R day for the first pone of 07

TUESDAY   HIGH TIDE – 6.00am, LOW TIDE – 11.48am. There was a bit of swell from the NE so they headed to the north side to The Rock. Wave quality was average with the odd good one about head high. Wind was strong again very early making the waves choppy and bumpy after a while. Surfed from 6.45 to 9.30.

WEDNESDAY   HIGH TIDE – 6.45am, LOW TIDE 12.32PM.  With a messy swell and the wind still up the crew decided it wasn’t worth the early wake up, and opted for an island tour to check Upolu.

THURSDAY   HIGH TIDE – 7.28am, LOW TIDE – 1.16pm.  The conditions hadn’t changed much from Wednesday but they headed over to The Rock again.  Much the same as Tuesday, slightly lumpy, with the occasional good one up to head high. Surfed from 7.00 to 9.30.

FRIDAY   HIGH TIDE – 8.09am, LOW TIDE – 2.00pm.  Again the swell was small but the wind held off in the morning. Surfed at Coco’s as it’s a bit of a swell magnet, and makes whatever is on offer stand up a bit. Waves were waist to shoulder high in glassy conditions, the only waves on offer. Surfed from 7.30 to 10.00.

 Very clean small Coco’s

SATURDAY   HIGH TIDE – 8.50am, LOW TIDE – 2.45pm.  A new swell from the south up to head high had popped overnight and they found some OK waves at Wakas. Conditions were clean and the waves were fun, some very nice sections. Surfed from 7.30 to 11.00.

SUNDAY   HIGH TIDE – 9.34am, LOW TIDE – 3.30pm.  Another day of clean swell up to head high, with light winds, so a good conditions to hit Ytops. It wasn’t classic but fun with a few peaks to choose from and the occasional one lining up from the inside.  Wind held off for the whole session after threatening to come up earlier. Surfed from 8.30 to 12.00.
