Jersey Longboard Riders Association's Citigroup/Cloud Nine Summer Series Goes Off
Finalist Joe Davies
The Jersey Longboard Riders Association held the first of their Summer Series contests over the weekend at Cutty Sark, St.Ouens Bay in Jersey. The 2-foot swell, light winds and the return of the sunshine made for good conditions and a relaxed atmosphere for all competitors involved in the event. The flags were raised, the barbie was lit and the beers were cooled as the contest got underway in super fun waves, with the format of the series having all divisions in together, it makes for some interesting heats All competitors made the most of the fun waves, with Matt Chapman being the junior standout making it all the way to the final of the open, earning himself highest placed junior with a good array of nose-rides and smooth turns. PJ Journeaux placed the highest in the masters division, making it to the semis of the open, showing there’s life in the old dog yet! The ladies division was won by Grace Davies, who due to spending most of her 1st heat swimming for her board she had to surf through the repocharge, but showed her skill and style by making into the open final. Due to the dropping tide, the waves for the final were not as good as for the earlier heats, but all finalists showed their skill, linking nose rides and turns in the small waves, but it was the JLRA president, Gordon Blake, who came out on top, narrowly beating Joe Davies into 2nd place The Jersey Longboard Riders Association would like to thank our sponsors Citigroup, Cloudnine and AC Gallie for their support on this event!
