Stand up paddle team tackle Africa's Sunset Reef

Sunset Reef is known around the world and especially in South Africa as one of the most dangerous big wave locations. Just down the road lies the notorious "DUNGEONS" which hosts a big wave invitational contest each year. Last week saw an unexpected large Summer swell arrive in Cape Town and while most big wave surfers were either in Hawaii or out charging Outerkom, two of SA's stand up paddle surfers seized the moment to venture out and experience some true African Power on Stand Up Paddle Boards. Reinhardt Fourie, one of SA's top big wave Tow-In surfers (Owner of DAKINE South Africa) and Ivan van Vuuren (owner of Premier Productions Hawaii) paddled out initially to just check it out. With only 2 other surfers in the lineup (Legendary waterman, Pierre De Villiers & Jeremy Hare) the stage was set for some great stand up paddle surfing. |
