Epic swell continues
to pound SE Qld
The
swell was way bigger on the Gold Coast beaches this morning than yesterday,
with waves in the 8-10+ft range washing through most of the points. Once
again the bottom end of the Superbank from Coolangatta to Kirra was the pick
and there were tow ins happening off all the points as the sweep was
horrendous.
Main Beach at Byron turned on some crazy caves today, but the bank at The
Pass was a bit weird.
The open beaches on the Sunshine Coast were maxed out around 8-10ft but the
protected corners at Mooloolaba and Noosa were sheltered from the howling,
gale force SE winds. Noosa was smaller today than yesterday as the swell
direction had edged around more to the SE. It was mayhem; there were big
crowds in the water on all the points, traffic jams and parking hassles.
Once again the pick spots were at the Boiling Pot at the top end of National
Park, from the bottom of Nationals into Johnson’s and First Point.
Mooloolaba had some thumping shories.
Tomorrow the low is predicted to track to the NW. The wind should ease back
a little and conditions moderate a bit and that should improve conditions as
there is still plenty of swell out there. – JC.
