On March 8th at one of Christchurch's Surfing beaches in New Zealand, Point Surf Team Surfboard Riding Club will be running the 2008 Central Surf Single Fin Surfing Classic. This surfing contest is not your typical rated event for shortboards but is a surfing contest using traditional old style Single Fin Surfboards that have been made up especially for the event.

It’s a surf contest where competitors ride those freaky surfboards that where around in the late sixties early seventies. Surfing Legends such as Australia surfer Michael Peterson and New Zealand Surfing Icon Allan Byrne made their names on these types of surfboards. Since the events inception in 1999 this unique event has produced some hot surfing and also some funny moments, from afro wigs to pin striped suits. This contest brings out many characters. 

Last year the 2007 contest was held in the best waves yet for a surf contest in the Canterbury region at Hickory Bay on Banks Peninsula as you can see in the attached photos. With the ok been given to be allowed across the Farm at Hickory Bay by the farmer for the 2008 event.  Point Surf Team Boardriders have got their options covered to hold this contest in good pumping waves yet again.

With the likes of South island surfing brothers Manu and Tony Schafer as well as some top local underground single fin rippers looking forward to this event we should except to see some single fin magic .

A prize package for the event in excess of $3500 has bee sourced from some wicked sponsors such as Quicksliver, Roxy, Urban Surf Shop, Central Surf Shop, Sticky Bumps wax, Smith Sunglasses, Fourfountanine, Nrg, Kuta lines and Dakine. Plus add in some totally cool handcrafted stone trophies for the winners.
