Local festival highlights the ‘Sunny Alternative The Lake Kawana Community Centre will ‘go off’ on Saturday March 15 with an awesome night of music and fun thanks to The Sunshine Coast Velocity Festival. Eight bands including Brisbane outfit Golden Virtues will perform from 5.30pm to 11.30pm at the lakeside venue. Also performing are Chant, Showpony, For All Colours, Sue-anne, Silence is Deafening, Aces High and Brisbane all-girl band Angels of Fire. Other displays will include tramp boarding (a skateboard, trampoline hybrid sport), fire twirling and circus theatre. The event is a taste of what the Sunshine Coast community can expect from the major one-day festival to be held at Quad Park in November this year. Festival Director and Kawana local Katie Warrener said the Velocity Festival was an opportunity to showcase alternative leisure sports, arts and music to the local community. “We want to show the local community, and young people in particular that there are so many alternatives to traditional sports, art and music,” Warrener said. She said the Festival would target people aged 13-30 however the activities and entertainment would appeal to people of all ages. The licensed event is open to all ages. Entry is $10 or $25 for families. Children under 5 are free. Tickets are available at the gate or through Odyssey Clothing (Big Top), PCYC Nambour and Costumes Galore (Maroochydore). Further information and an opportunity to win free tickets can be found on the website www.xtremev.com. The Sunshine Coast Velocity Festival is produced by Xtreme V Inc., a not-for-profit organisation committed to seeing the development of a hospice on the Sunshine Coast.
