Each year around April-May, the Central Coast Malibu Boardriders Club hold a
charity event called ‘The Magoo Charity Classic’ in honour of their own
living legend Barry ‘Magoo’ McGuigan. The event is a longboard surfing
contest held at Soldiers Beach on the NSW Central Coast (Magoo's home
beach), and they also have an associated charity raffle and charity auction
the same weekend.
‘Magoo’ is 79 this May, is still and active club member, and regularly
competes in State and National Titles and other surfing contests around
Australia. Magoo is a top bloke and a real inspiration to all that know him.
The club is honoured to have Magoo as a member and to hold this event in his
honour. Seeing him glow at the event each year with pride, makes all the
effort worth while.
Shortstraw are proudly involved with the charity event and have come on
board to donate prizes to the Under 8ft’ers and Old Mal divisions. Team
riders Carl Gonsalves, Sean Finnelley and Dom Breen will be competing and
sharing the stoke on the day . . . but also come up and say hi to Shortstraw
artist Jim Mitchell, as he’ll be surfing, chilling and spruiking the groms
out in a few free tee shirts and Shorty towels.
7am start, Saturday 12th April
8am start, Sunday 13th April

ALL money raised from the event goes to Central Coast Health Cancer Research
and Cancer Care.
The Magoo has developed into a good weekend of longboarding and fun; the
event just has a great vibe about it. So come hang out and support a great
bloke, slide a few waves and possibly score yourself a grip of Shortstraw
gear.
