OH MAGOO ... YOU'VE DONE IT
AGAIN!!!
-
Dateline: Saturday
12th & Sunday 13th April
-
Place Soldier's Beach -
Central Coast - NSW
-
Reason: The Annual
Magoo Charity Classic
-
Well, Huey certainly
delivered the goods for the two-day Magoo Charity Classic (yet again)
-
Over this two day
weekend, a total of 11 divisions were run & won
-
This year it was
great to see the Ladies out in force
-
Saturday started
at 7am (on the dot!!) with some great little peaks in the 2-4 foot range
-
Weather was great
-
Wind remained
virtually non-existent
-
All the Heats and
a few Semi's were run
-
Saturday evening at the
Beachcomber Hotel saw a big get-together of contestants and friends for
the Charity Classic Auction
-
Sunday dawned clear with
a rise, and change in direction, of swell
-
Today's start was
to be 8am, but it nearly didn't eventuate, as the gate to the Soldier's
Beach Carpark was still locked at 6.45am
-
But as with the
Saturday start, Sunday started on time
-
The remaining
Semi's were run 'n won in some great, but shifting conditions
-
It was tough going
to find a sweet take-off spot, but when you did, you ended up with an
absolute cracker
-
By the time the
Finals rolled around the weather had taken a dramatic change
-
A weather front
was moving in from down Sydney-way
-
When it hit, the
ocean turned into a mass of whitewater, making wave (chop) selection very
difficult
-
The Judge's and
Contest Director's tents had to be dismantled before they were blown into
the carpark
-
It was also a
great change to not have heaps of free-surfers encroaching on the contest
area
-
Overall, they were
well-behaved
-
Another successful
Magoo held in the Aloha
Spirit
-
This year's Magoo was the
first open contest to be run by Mitch Fraser, and I think most people
would've agreed that it went really well.
