The Noosa Wrecks & Relics Over 50s Longboard Get Together
was held in challenging but consistent offshore conditions at Castaways
Beach last weekend.
The competition - now in it’s 6th year - attracted over 100 older surfers
from Australia and NZ. And while the “wrecks” might be getting on in years,
the quality of surfing across all age divisions proved they can still surf
up a storm.
The Noosa Malibu Club hosted the event and early feedback has it being
called “one of the best organised, best value for money competitions in
Australia.” Another comment received said: “the atmosphere, camaraderie,
enthusiasm, and Longboard culture was terrific.”
And it is these qualities that keep the competitors coming back year after
year.
Noosa Malibu Club President Dave Dunn took out the Old Mal final - surfing
his pre-1968 Malibu while other Sunshine Coast locals, Peppie Simpson &
Contest Director Paul Winter, took out the Women’s Over 50s division and the
inaugural Stand Up paddle event respectively.
The full list of winners were:
Over 50s: Mike Pimm (Causuarina, NSW)
Over 55s: Denis Carberry (Burleigh Heads, QLD)

Over 65s: Kerry Purdon (Erina Heights, NSW)
