Concerts Added
to the Festivities at the Second Annual Roxy Jam Cardiff This Weekend
Already packed full of entertainment, Roxy is pleased to announce the
addition of two, free outdoor concerts to it’s already long list of event
activities at the Roxy Jam Cardiff featuring the Linda Benson Women’s World
Longboard Pro this weekend September 22-23, 2007.
Rocco DeLuca & The Burden, Rogue Wave, Jessie Baylin and The PawnShop Kings
are scheduled to play an oceanfront concert on the beach on Saturday. Todd
Hannigan and Ray Barbee and The Mattson 2, along with special guest act from
ABC hit series Grey’s Anatomy will entertain the crowd on Sunday.
Beach Festival
When not watching the pro longboarding action in the water, attendees of the
Roxy Jam Cardiff are encouraged to share in on the fun of the event and
visit the festival area. The interactive festival area will include an art
gallery featuring local San Diego artists, food vendors and booths hosted by
Roxy and other local merchants. There will also be an exclusive surfboard
raffle featuring boards by legendary shapers Donald Takayama, Robert August
and others.
Benefits from the board raffle will go to the San Elijo Lagoon Conservancy
to help raise community awareness about urban run-off and to supplement the
Conservancy’s water quality testing program. The purchase of a raffle ticket
will automatically enter you to win two roundtrip tickets to Maui courtesy
of Aloha Airlines.
Attendees can also get a free photo in front of the massive 15 foot SchickR
QuattroR for WomenT sand sculpture. For the early risers, each morning
there will be free yoga sessions on the beach hosted by YogaWorks and free
pancake breakfasts with the Encinitas Fire Department.
About the Bands
Rocco DeLuca & The Burden are the first to sign to the Jude Cole and Kiefer
Sutherland owned independent record label, Ironworks Music. With his
impressive vocal range and his preference for the Dobro steel guitar, DeLuca
brings a new fresh sound intertwined with elements of his Appalachian Folk
and Blues influences.
Rogue Wave is an indie rock band from Oakland, California, signed to
Brushfire Records and headed by San Francisco native Zach Schwartz (a.k.a.
Zach Rogue). The quartet met on Craigslist and quickly became great
friends. Their new record Asleep At Heaven’s Gate is an album about hopes
and fears, triumphs and tragedies, sadness and joy. They have been referred
to likes of Snow Patrol, The Shins and Keane.
Jessie Baylin, is a LA based singer and songwriter whose gift for words
transcend all ages, even though most young women her age are just beginning
on the path to coming into their own persona. Having completed tours with
James Morrison, Delores O’Riordan, Brett Dennen and others, Jessie is
currently working on her first major label release, due out in 2008.
The PawnShop Kings are driven by formative, familial experiences on their
Arkansas plantation, born in Texas and raised on the beach in southern
California. They play the music of the American South with equal parts
rock, gospel, country and pop. Their inspiration comes greatly from the
melodic sensibility and purpose of the Staple Singers and Bob Marley
alongside the musical expanse of the Beatles.
Todd Hannigan’s sound is a mix of JJ Cale, Nick Drake, Mark Knopfler and a
little Cat Stevens. He’s recognized worldwide for his production and
songwriting work on the soundtrack to Jack Johnson’s “Thicker Than Water,”
where he wrote and performed the title track, “Thicker.” Todd’s
self-released debut, Volume 1, is a mix of the influences from the southern
California music scene with backing arrangements that border on
psychedelic.
It’s a very chilled out record producing sounds inspired by a life spent on
one of America’s most picturesque coastlines.
The
Roxy Jam Cardiff is sponsored by SchickR QuattroR for WomenT, Paul Mitchell,
Zune, JBL, Hansen Surfboards, Surftech, Wahoo’s and Aloha Airlines. For
