It’s Back to the Beach at the 2007 Evans Head Longboard Invitational.

                      

190 surfers will descend on Evans Head’ Main Beach over the October long weekend to compete in 10 separate divisions of the popular surfing event.

 

The 17th annual Evans Head Longboard Invitational, is again proudly sponsored by The Evans Head Bowling Club and is presented by The Evans Head Over 8’s Malibu Club Inc.

 

          The event has been booked out in most divisions for weeks now and very last place has been taken up by 3 time

         New Zealand Junior Champion, Dylan Barnfield, who has now progressed to the premier 9FT Open Division

       . He will compete against Australian Longboard Circuit (ALC) surfers Paul Scholten (Emerald Bch), Jared Neal

         (Coffs Harbour) and Ruben Roxburgh (Evans Head).

 

         The  Bic Surf Open with $500 prize money features defending champion Jared Neal, Ruben Roxburgh and

         inaugural winner, Bryce Young (Angourie), along with Sput Keevers (Byron Bay) who won an Over 40’s version of             the Bic Surf Open.

 

The Open Women represent all ages with the up and coming Junior girls like Kara Nobbs (Ballina) and Jess Whyatt (Byron Bay) challenging the likes of former Australian Champions, Sally Paxton (Tweed) and Lisa Nicholson (Banora Point) and pro longboarder, Sarra Robertson (East Wardell)

 

T   he Over 35; Over 45; and Over 55 age divisions are full of regular finalists at events up and down the East Coast as well as a

          number of former Australian and state champions.

 

T   he Under 18 Boys and Under 18 Girls divisions also booked out quickly and some serious new talent is likely to be on

         with competitors arriving from right along the length of the NSW coastline and into Queensland. In fact it’s a

            line up ofAustralia’s best Juniors all out for a warm prior to next month’s Australia Longboard Titles.

         *Jumigum the Whale – Naming and Welcoming Ceremony (SUNDAY 11:00am)

 

       *And the ever popular fun feature: The Fleas and Ants for  the 12 and Unders on Sunday @ 10:20am)

 

     * Beachside Markets – (MONDAY OCT 1)

 

And   Don’t miss the Honolua Stand Up Paddleboard “Expression Session”

         It gets under way at 10:20am Monday with over-sized surfboards powered by long-handled paddles. Astonishing speed and maneuverability, a rare blend of grace and power.

 

All surfing will be held at Main Beach, Evans Head with music, BBQs and refreshments available and excellent spectator viewing.

 

The days start at 6:20am and surfing continues through until 2:00pm each day.

 

T       The surfers gather together at events such as this in the spirit of aloha (peace and friendliness) to trade boards and

          surf stories, to have fun and to celebrate surfing while they raise funds for charity. This year’s charities include the

         NSW Cancer Council; Mid-Richmond Lions Charity Fund; Evans Head SLSC and the Disabled

         Surfers Association.

                                                          

Finals will commence at approximately 8:30am on Monday October 1.
