Roxy boosts World Women's Longboard Tour Phillip Island upgraded to richest Womens Longboard event in Australia
Jen Smith shows her style winning the ASP 2007 World Longboard Title
The upcoming Roxy Surf Festival at Phillip Island in January announces Australia's biggest ever ASP Longboard Qualifying Series Women's event by upgrading to a three star rating.
In conjunction with the upgrade, reigning Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) World Women's Longboard Champion Jennifer Smith (San Diego, CA, USA) along with stylish Kassia Meador (Oceanside, CA, USA) will come to Phillip Island in January to compete in what is certain to be the best ever display of women's longboarding seen in Australia.
Globally, women's longboard surfing is booming and Phillip Island is the ideal location for the world's best to display their style, grace and finesse and all round skills with an abundance of excellent waves across the entire island. Phillip Island has more than a dozen world-class reef, beach and point breaks.
It's all part of the Roxy Surf Festival which includes the 6-star ASP World Qualifying Series division along with the Roxy Pro Junior division, and amateur divisions making for the world's biggest Women's surfing festival.
Surfing Victoria's Max Wells commented on the announcement saying; "This years Roxy Surf Festival will be massive - the event has proved itself by delivering fantastic surf every year and the world's best females look forward to surfing great waves and having a great time at Phillip Island each year - It's a special gathering and a serious professional event which enjoys the summer fun atmosphere of the island."
The 2 top place getters in the Roxy Phillip Island event will receive a top round seed to the Roxy ASP World Championship July 9th – 14th 2008, which will decide the ASP Women’s World Championship at Cote des Basques, Biarritz, France.
Jennifer Smith claimed the ASP World Longboard Title in France at the Roxy Jam in early July and she's also the ASP North American Longboarding champion while Kassia Meador is renown for both her free surfing style and competitive abilities. Both will face a huge contingent of talented Australian longboarders lead by the defending Roxy champion Chelsea Williams (Tweed Heads).
The Roxy Surf Festival begins Monday the 21st of January and runs for a full week through to the 28th of January 2008 at Phillip Island. |
