Timothée Creignou wins Four Oceans Euro Longboard Tour event #1
Podium : photo JP Carcavelos The first stage of the European Longboard Tour has just finished in Praia de Faro, Portugal. The quality of waves exceeded all expectations and everyone has seen anthology surfing with several waves scored above 9 points. The winner was the French Timothée Creignou who showed to be the most consistent surfer on the waves. The British Ben Skinner, with a spectacular style, got second. The third was the also British Adam Griffiths, while the Portuguese Miguel Ruivo was the best national surfer on fourth place. This competition also provided points for the national longboard rankings. Therefore, Miguel Ruivo gathered the maximum amount of points for the ranks followed by Diogo Gonçalves who can become Portuguese champion on the next stage. Luís Cruz, Paulo Dias and Luís Bento exequo, followed. With the bigger sets reaching 7 feet, hot sun shine and no wind, the sea provided all the surfers could ask to show their skills. Perfect waves allowed maneuvers all the way trough until the shore. Everybody at the beach sat down and enjoyed the spectacular moments of longboard provided by the best surfers in Europe.
The foreign as well as the national competitors valued the fact that all the details were prepared by the organization. The natural beauty of the spot, in the center of Ria Formosa has delighted all. Even the forecast helped for the last day, so that everyone involved had many reasons to smile. Joan Loustav, head judge, stated that “the weather was good, the waves too, the water temperature was awesome and we have seen excellent surf. Even the boat trips to the peak were unique due to the natural beauty of the spot.” The competition director, Manuel Mestre, referred that “the staff is very pleased with the feedback provided by the surfers. We showed that Portugal has a great potential to organize big surf events. The final ceremony took place in Praia de Faro’s Centro Náutico. Local authorities like the Mayor were there stating that this sort of sports event will be repeated in Faro area in the future. The intention of bringing this circuit to Faro next year was assumed. The second stage of the European Longboard Tour will take place in France on the 12th, 13th and 14th of October at Plage de Lacanau promoted by Lacanau Surf Club. The event was sponsored by Câmara Municipal de Faro, Junta de Freguesia do Montenegro, Instituto Português da Juventude and Instituto do Desporto de Portugal.
